Anastasia Bernardi (Anasuya)
In 1988, after seven years of karate, Anasuya fell into, a still very much alive, deep fascination for Yoga. Starting with the Belgian Andre Van Lysbeth and the Satyananda Saraswati School of Yoga in Milano, Italy, she set herself on a search that took her to India for long periods of time to experience a number of Yoga teachings, such as the Sivananda Ashram of Rishikesh, the Iyengar system, the Kaivalyadhama Samhiti, Yoga Research Institution of Lonavla (Pune) with Dr Bhole, and the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute of Mysore with Shri K Pattabhi Jois.
The very significant and deeply transforming meeting, in 1991, with Yogamaharishi Swami Dr Gitananda Giri at Ananda Ashram in South India set her on the teaching path, and since then she has been teaching in Italy, India, Brazil and Australia.
In Pondicherry in 1993 she also had a life-changing encounter with Swami Anandakapila Saraswati (Dr Jonn Mumford), that she is still treasuring as the most precious source of inspiration and learning in Yoga and Tantra.
Anasuya holds a Master of Teaching (Psychology and Italian) from the University of Melbourne, Australia, and previously in Italy she completed a Master of Education at Parma University, with a comparative thesis on Yoga as a teaching system versus the Western approach of teaching.
Her Yoga manual, written for her students in Milano, was published in Italy in 1997. "Yoga il respire della vita" is an introduction to Ashtanga Yoga as a discipline, focused on chosen asanas, pranayamas, and relaxation techniques.
She is currently teaching at her Brighton Bay Studio in Melbourne, integrating Yoga and Tantra with the Feldenkrais Method (Awareness Through Movement). Being a qualified language teacher, Anasuya also runs Yoga classes in both English and Italian simultaneously.
